An electric cocktail:
Erotic art, burlesque and the Red Raven
What do you get when you pair an erotic art event with the talented Bad Weather Burlesque performers? Answer: an electric current sending sparks throughout the entire evening, leaving you charged and visually stimulated. Green Leopard Print Tights
“Leaves of three, let them be.” -Unknown
I used to own a pair of green, leopard print tights. A friend of mine was throwing them away and I insisted on taking them. They were intended for a little girl, to whom these were a full-length pair of animal print, stretchy pants with elastic cuffs. However, to a grown man with a sense of humor, they were a knee length skin tight pair of rock ‘n’ roll party pants. In those days I wore the same pair of black cargo shorts everyday while I was traveling, and from that day forward I wore those green leopard print tights underneath. They’d become part of my identity.
Matt Kish Q&A
Ohio-based artist Matt Kish, who spent roughly 18 months illustrating “Moby-Dick” with a drawing for every page of the Signet Classics edition, has seen the fruits of his labor published as a beautiful, full color volume from Tin House Books. Kish will present a talk on Thursday, January 19 at 7:30pm in Jones 212 (Fugelstad Auditorium) on the campus of Concordia College. The event is free and the community is invited to attend. Copies of “Moby-Dick in Pictures: One Drawing for Every Page” will be available for sale and signing following the presentation.
The End of the World is Here Again!
Well folks, the notorious year 2012 A.D. has arrived—the year the world is supposed to end, according to several sources. Unlike many end-of-the-world predictions—and there have been many—this “end” has somewhat more authority behind it than usual.
Awakened By Art at the Rourke
5 January 2012 Sunday 1400 The Rourke Gallery Moorhead
A pleasant walk over the river to The Rourke and, on entering, I am mildly surprised at the number of people that are in attendance. The Artist, Kirk Williams, is already speaking in the main hall and it is packed—some sitting, most standing. Tania Blanich, the Director, stands radiantly off to the side. I ditch my gear and dig out the point and shoot… and point and shoot. I am in adjacent galleries so I can still hear Williams’ words which are consistently followed by laughter. A good sign.
The Lost Generation
Last fall the world population passed 7 billion people and the United Nations Population Fund released its Global Population Report warning about the perils of a new Lost Generation or as some have called it, the Un Generation; “Un” being short for unable to contribute meaningfully to society, unable to obtain an education, unable to find employment, etc. According to the UNFPA Global Population Report, of those 7 billion people,
Legendary North Dakota
Last Thursday the North Dakota Tourism Board’s decision to pull an ad that struck controversy on FaceBook got national attention. The words “sickening” and “sexist” were used to describe the ad. Pat Finken, the president of Odney Advertising, the firm who designed the ad claimed that it wasn’t meant to be racy saying it was “a little flirty, a little fun,” and that he hadn’t anticipated this kind of response.
