Active GF Arts Scene

Summer weather may finally be here (sporadically, at least), but local arts opportunities certainly have not ended with the end of the school terms. The screenwriting segment of the UND Summer Movie Camp for teens began this Monday and the production/editing portion will be next week.
This past Tuesday a new exhibit at the North Dakota Museum of Art just opened, “Remembering Dakota,” featuring the works of 38 artists dealing with North Dakota. It continues through August 10.

Grand Forks area audiences can see live musical theatre at the Empire Arts Center again this Thursday and Friday (June 12-13), with Thompson High School’s production of “Pajama Game,” a show that has not been staged in Grand Forks in recent memory.

Then Saturday and Sunday is the annual outdoor “Grand Cities Art Fest” with numerous artists and crafts workers showing their handiwork in downtown Grand Forks, along with live music and food vendors.

Looking ahead slightly, “Airwaves,” an old style radio variety show, will be performed on the Empire’s stage, Tuesday, June 24 as a fundraiser for the Northern Valley Honor Flight project.

Then Sunday, June 29 is the public screening of this year’s UND Summer Movie Camp movies, also at the Empire Arts Center.

Of course the Summer Performing Arts program is already in rehearsals for its three musical shows coming up in July, including “Oklahoma!,” “The Journey to Me-A Spa Revue,” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”

Crimson Creek Players are planning to put on “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” in August.
