VC Theatre Presents “Same Time, Next Year”

“Same Time,Next Year” by Canadian playwright Bernard Slade is this year’s Valley City Area Community Theatre annual production. The show is being done as dinner theatre.

A man and woman, though both are married to other people, meet once a year for twenty-five years (1951 to 1975) for a romantic weekend.

George (played by Andrew Hager) is a fairly stuffy conservative accountant and the highly neurotic one in the relationship. Doris (played by Amy Tahran) is more solidly grounded but has her moments of weakness and insecurities too.

Although they see each other only once a year, they each become an important part of the other’s life and take an interest in one another’s families.

“Same Time, Next Year” premiered on Broadway in 1975 and ran for four years. It won a Drama Desk Award For Outstanding New Play in 1975 and a Tony Award for lead actress Ellen Burstyn, who recreated her role for the successful movie version with Alan Alda in 1978.

Tickets for Valley City Area Community Theatre’s dinner theatre production of this great play are very reasonably priced at $17.

Dates are Thursday July 31 through Sunday, August 3 at 6:00 p.m., at the Valley City High School Cafeteria (460 Central Avenue North). For more information call Amy Tahran at (701) 840-8056.
