North Dakota’s Poet Laureate reads from his new memoir, “A Step From Death.” It begins with his carelessness with a hay baler attached to a powerful tractor--the kind of mistake that can kill a novice. For the remainder of the memoir, addressed to his only son Joseph, the ribs he broke that day and the other injuries he sustained serve as a reminder of the closeness of death.
