5th annual Cocktail Showdown: Week 4

By Kayleigh Johnson

Vinyl Taco

The shot: Luna Noche
The creator: Elijah Larson

This tasty concoction from what may be Fargo’s hottest new restaurant, Vinyl Taco, is the shaken mixture of its own house-made horchata (a traditional Mexican beverage usually made out of rice or almond milk, cinnamon, sugar and lime zest) and blueberry-flavored Midnight Moonshine. This shot achieves great depth of flavor without becoming too sugary and is extremely smooth and drinkable.

The cocktail: Noe’s Cider 29
The creator: Elijah Larson

Noe’s Cider 29 is another home run from this impressive bartender. The cocktail is Booker’s Bourbon, house-made apple cider and two 1-inch-by-1-inch ice cubes — one of frozen cider and almond extract, the other of frozen cider and maple syrup. Larson named the drink after the bourbon’s distiller, Booker Noe (Jim Beam’s grandson). This drink starts out very booze-potent, and as the cubes melt it gets delightfully sweeter and crisp. This is a great fall drink to warm you up from the inside. We recommend trying one today.

Chub’s Pub

The shot: Laid by Wade
The creator: Wade Lindgren

As we walked into Chub’s, it was like taking a time machine back to college. Thursday nights boast $1 domestic tap beers and the air smelled of fresh, salty popcorn. Then we got Laid by Wade. Named after its creator, Wade Lindgren, the shot is Amaretto, Southern Comfort, Peach Schnapps and pineapple and cranberry juice. It is shaken and served in a traditional lowball-turned-shot glass. The shot is fruity and sweet and may bring you back to a more carefree time. Cheers!

**Stay tuned during the upcoming weeks for more Cocktail Showdown fun. HPR encourages you to go out and try these drinks and tell us what you think on our Facebook page. Please remember, as always, to drink responsibly and plan a sober ride.
