Cocktail Showdown, Week 3
By Nikki Berglund
GREEN MILL
Cocktail: Pumpkin Pietini- Creator: Anthony Dub
This was the first pumpkin drink of the contest and it was a doozy. Rimmed with caramel and graham crackers, the TLC put into this drink was evident. There are a ton of new vodkas out there, one of which is whipped cream flavor, and what a great cocktail to use it in. Pumpkin puree gives this drink the extra kick to really make you feel like you are drinking a piece of pie. $5.99
REDFORD’S STEAKHOUSE
Cocktail: Double Chocolate Martini- Creator: Staff
It really is hard to fail at a chocolate martini and this one is no exception. Although maybe not winning any awards for creativity, the flavors and gorgeous presentation of the cocktail were easy on the eyes and palette. $10.00
Shot: Blue Eyes- Creator: Jenna Lenertz
The very best part of this shot is the fact that Jenna invented it for us on the spot…and it was actually good! As a lover of all things blueberry, Jenna’s mixology skills shined as she poured a little of this and a little of that until she came up with the exact flavors she was looking for. The finished product was a sort of creamy blueberry and orange juice shot, which made for a sort of Orange Julius effect. $5.00
RHOMBUS GUYS
Cocktail: XD6- Creator: Ian Dickmeyer
The name of this drinks stands for “Experimental Drink 6,” which tells you that the people at Rhombus Guys aren’t messing around. If you thought this place was all about beer and pizza, this drink will certainly prove you wrong. Without divulging the entire recipe, a couple of key ingredients included fresh muddled basil, which is fitting for a pizza joint, with the main spirits being Absolut Acai and Vanilla. $8.00/ $6.00 on Wednesdays
Shot: Pear- Ahhh- Creator: Ian Dickmeyer
This was such an intriguing shot that we found ourselves having to each order more than one (okay more than two) in order to figure it out. Served in a champagne flute, this strategically blended mix of Remy VS, Absolut Pear, and a splash of agave nectar was executed in a way that made the finished product reminiscent of a champagne cocktail, without the champagne. The flavors were so unexpected that we analyzed , debated, and drank them until we had it figured out, and then maybe one more for good measure. Some of us chose to drink ours more as an after dinner drink than a shot. $4.00
