Delivering You the Freshest Food on Two Wheels

It continues to amaze me that, in these fast food times, places like the Clock Tower Café still continue to provide fresh, regional, homemade foods at reasonable prices. These days, getting people to think beyond the king, the colonel and the crown is a real challenge. Why would I want to pay six dollars for my lunch when I can just go through the nearest drive through and order off of a dollar menu? I’ll tell you why: because you can’t put a price on quality.
First and foremost, I am not a food expert. Never have been and probably never will be. I can’t explain the difference between a fricassee and a fasnacht (can you?). But what I can do is tell you if a dish is good or not, and calling the sandwiches and soups that the Clock Tower Café serves “good” would be an insult. Their food is fantastic.
Located at 425 Broadway, the Clock Tower Café resides in what was once the Great Northern Depot and Brewery. The Café is a part of the Great Northern Bicycle Company (GNBC). An extension of Island Park Cycles, GNBC is part of a bicycling company that has been providing customers with quality bike sales, service and repair for over 20 years. Wanting to extend their commitment to quality, the owners opened the Clock Tower Café in 2009.
The menu is simple but profound and features homemade soups, sandwiches, wraps and bagels with the menu changing weekly. All of the ingredients are fresh including hydroponically grown tomatoes from Detroit Lakes and other produce from local farmers. Each sandwich is made to order and is made with bread that is baked in-house daily. I personally recommend the Kare Bear Stare (named after the owner’s wife) which consists of turkey, provolone, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and lettuce and is topped with a sweet onion vinaigrette. Feel like a bagel sandwich? Try the Flood Fighter, this week’s special sandwich. It comes with turkey, cucumber cream cheese, roasted red tomatoes and provolone. Customers can also choose to build their own sandwich from a large selection of fresh ingredients.
Wanting to stress their commitment to homemade ingredients, the Café serves their sandwiches with a side of fresh veggies and a homemade hummus dip made with garlic, cumin, lemon and roasted red pepper. The Café also features a coffee and espresso bar and an assortment of specialty drinks and sodas. Still hungry after your sandwich? Not a problem- try a scoop of their gelato or sorbet for dessert.
The Clock Tower Café is open during lunch hours and, for your convenience, will even deliver (by bike, naturally) to the downtown area. They feature indoor and outdoor seating. Like their food?
