Adam Makes a CD Recording

Despite the long, bleak winters and hot, oppressive summers, humor still stands strong in the F-M community. Thanks to folks like Adam Quesnell, the stand-up comedy culture thrives right under our noses. Quesnell has been performing comedy at Courtney’s Comedy Club, located at 600 30 Ave. S Moorhead) for nearly two years now and is now on the road to becoming a featured comic, thanks to events like the 222 Comedy Boom.
“The 222 Comedy Boom III: Adam Quesnell’s CD Recording” will be hosted on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Studio 222. The event will be a live recording for Fargo comedian Adam Quesnell, so a live audience is required! Admission is a measly five dollars and refreshments will be available for of-age clientele.
Quesnell is very excited for the event.
“This Comedy Boom will mark the first time that the Kamikaze Snowmen have hosted a straight stand-up show,” Quesnell said. “They were on both shows last spring, but this time they will serve as hosts for the night, keeping things going with their hilarious tunes”.
The Snowmen have been making music for over a decade and are known for their rather unorthodox method of music composition that utilizes lyrics that exemplify everything from political commentary to “Indiana Jones.”
The event will not be the standard open-mic, general impromptu comedy night. All performers will be running a scripted comedy routine of their own. However, this in no way is a hindrance. “I’m also hoping a crazy impromptu open mic breaks out after the booked show” said Quesnell.
The Comedy Boom event is generally a bi-monthly event, providing plenty of ample opportunities for interested viewers. The first showing was in March with Spencer Dobson headlining and the second show featured JD Provorse who will also be at Quesnell’s CD recording.
This event is a prime example of the ever-growing comedy scene in the F-M community, one that comes from a growing comedy scene nationwide. Stand-up comics continue to get recognition both on and off the stage as they are seen popping up in cinema and television. Comedy Central continues to give these comedians their own television specials (such as Important Things with Demetri Martin or Louis C.K.’s show Louie) and new comedians lend their voices and talents as actors as well. For example, comedian David Cross is well known for his roles in Arrested Development, Kung Fu Panda and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
That scene continues to flourish right here, ready to laugh at for your pleasure and entertainment. The event will also feature Josh Wallace with special guest, JD Provorse.
As the F-M comedy scene continues to gain influence, hopefully more and more venues will begin to recognize this flourishing culture. Currently, Courtney’s Comedy Club (located on 30th Ave. in Moorhead) is the heavy hitter for Red River humor. Courtney’s has been around for nearly two decades and is easily one of the best kept secrets of the F-M community. The Red Raven in Fargo has also heavily contributed with their weekly open-mic night every Tuesday at 9 p.m.
