Omega Point Now Pt. II

Neogenesis

It’s typical behavior to take out frustration on the messenger, and thus political suicide, to bring the full details to center stage. Not to mention that without a comprehensive plan and message of hope, it would only amount to a massive blow to an economy already sputtering. It’s for that reason that political windbags get away with muddying the water with terminological inexactitudes that persuade people to opinions that are expressly against their own self interests. The facts are that peak oil production in the US was reached 40 years ago and led to the first two Oil Crises and recession of the 1970’s. Since then imports have been growing to cover both increasing demand and declining production, and president after president has warned of the dangers of dependence on foreign oil.

The peak in domestic production was modeled mathematically to within several years of its occurrence by M. King Hubbert in 1956. He based his projections on the peak in domestic oil discovery, which occurred in the 1930’s. Now we are nearly 50 years past the peak in global oil discovery and based on Hubert’s projections, right at the peak of global oil production. There should be little doubt about where we stand with news of oil companies recording record profits and declining production, OPEC nations reporting for years consistent reserves despite growing exports, and reserves previously untapped because of the high inputs needed now being economically viable and highly profitable.

All truth must pass through three stages: 1st it is ridiculed, 2nd it is violently opposed, 3rd it is accepted as being self-evident. In order for us to solve the issues presented, we need to accept a lot of terrifying information as being self-evident. Only once we do that can we hope to accomplish the required change in a non-disruptive political manner. The alternative is that nature will solve the issues for us, but that option leaves the future of our modern complex societies in question. As was said of the Great Depression: “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.”

It is truly this fear and its potential for destruction that is the only thing I fear. We are only just beginning as a society to come to the violent opposition stage of these self-evident truths, and men driven by fear are without exception unreasonable and unpredictable. The good news is that we already have all the tools that we need to solve these problems and the internet is the key to it. Democracy requires an informed public that can act rationally on important issues. For the moment the public is ill-informed. With the internet, nearly everyone has access to the resources and information needed to fix things in the shrinking time frame that’s available to us. The discussion needs to shift to energy, environmental economics, and sustainability first, attacking the status quo. We must foster this at all costs; eat or be eaten.

This is beginning to happen and has been called fascism, communism, socialism, and class warfare by the power hungry pigs whose short-sightedness took us into this death spiral in the first place. If we continue on the path that they would have us, we will undoubtedly destroy society as we know it and possibly create a dystopian world of the rich and their slaves. What they don’t realize is that the entirety of human history is a story of the very struggle that they are on the consistently losing side of. Many will use circular logic of Constitutionality to defend their positions, even though this country was founded as a beacon of hope for the struggle against oppression of all forms, wealth disparity being the present day crises. A new Great Deal is required to create sustainable jobs, repair and refit our infrastructure to compete in the new world, undo massive ecological devastation, change over an energy infrastructure that is a ticking time bomb, and most importantly sustain a global economic structure that requires US continued economic growth or faces collapse.

We are at a make or break point in human history. We are being forced to confront challenges that have plagued mankind for centuries and our options and timeline are severely limited, but if there is anything that can be called truly human, it’s the fact that we possess the intellectual and ideological capacities for limitless potential.

We are on the verge of a neogenesis. The transformation being undertaken by the world at this point requires an Ideological Chain Reaction that will be triggered when enough people are facing the hardships of an economy choked for fuel and enabled by the massive informative content and public forums of the internet. When that happens, there is no end or even slowing in sight for the progress of our species, even the sky no longer becomes a limit. By harnessing the power of the Sun, we will have a truly limitless energy source with which we can desalinate water for drinking and irrigation and reclaim land that was once arable, restoring balance and equality and furthering the unification of the world and the goal of peace. We will have proven ourselves as rightful bearers of knowledge and custodians of the planet.

If we can confront these issues, we will be both worthy and capable of pressing into the next frontier, the colonization of space. Some will certainly scoff at that idea, but the facts are that it’s really the only place left to go and we are technologically capable today. Without the economic crisis, space exploration certainly makes more sense than waging wars, so why are wars considered okay but space colonization silly? We can either come together as a species to face a mutual threat to our existence and step into a future that’s beyond our wildest dreams, or continue to bite and claw our way up the Tower of Babel we’ve constructed and face a world beyond our wildest nightmares. The delusions of past ideology will not get us through the coming crucible of modern society.
