Once again, F-M sticks it where the sun don’t shine

Chin Loofah. Dog Startler. Pudding Stabber. Snappy Dancer. And the always deviously sexy Mouse Smuggler were on display last Thursday as the Hotel Donaldson hosted the third annual Bros On Broadway benefit to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer and men’s health. This year’s stache crop compared favorably to those past and bodes well for those getting an early start for 2012. (check out the pics at http://www.facebook.com/photomilestones).
HPR spoke with HoDo manager Jason Laub, who was pleased with media coverage of the event, which allowed the HoDo to spread the message of early detection. Highlights for Jason included John Lamb, who came as Wolverine, and raised $5000 for the event; Bill as Alan from the Hangover; Colonel Sanders; Creepy Charly; and a Nineteenth Century Hunter. HPR adds a shout out to the two HoDo staffers costumed as Oompa Loompa’s - nice work!
As in previous years, the evening’s fundraising events supplied great entertainment. The mechanical bull riding was hotly contested. Josh Tandberg (of HoDo fame) won last year and looked to repeat. He graciously ceded the time of his ridiculously long first ride, but his second best effort propelled him into the finals. During the finals, the bull blew a fuse on Josh at 18 seconds (!); Laub reported that Josh looked a bit frazzled, which allowed Nick Weinhandl (one of the HoDo chefs) to seize first place.
The Crokinole tourney also proved a smash. MC’d by Jessie Rock, this Canadian pastime that calls to mind shuffleboard bocce is not as easy at it looks. Never heard of this? Check out http://www.crokinole.com/faq.asp. The HoDo has a board. One important rule, said Rock, is the one cheek rule—players must keep one cheek on the chair when playing. Congrats to the tourney winners, Linda and Larry Otteson.
Jason said they are still calculating the final tally, but it looks like Bros on Broadway raised over $25,000 for prostate cancer research. Over one hundred people attended the event and the fundraising teams were supported by hundreds of donors. The Hotel Donaldson wishes to thank all of the participants and sponsors for their hard work in making Bros a success.
HPR adds that this event is one of our area’s finest. Prostate cancer affects about 1 in 6 men in America. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. All those who participated, donated, and supported Bro’s should be proud. For those individuals and families battling prostate cancer, you have our love, compassion, and support.
