A Futuristically Inclined Traveling Minstrel Is Coming To Your Town!

Sometimes people grow tired or become bored with the conventional or traditional ways of doing things. One of these people is Mike Silverman, a classically trained bassist that has also left a mark in the jazz world.  He developed new techniques many were unaware were possible on upright bass.

It was this and his own percussive style of playing that gained him attention and got him hired for gigs.  Somewhere along the line, Mike realized he still wasn’t getting all of the sounds he had in his head to come out through the bass. He needed another medium and, thus, created “the magic pipe”—an entirely new instrument!

This goes beyond developing new techniques and into the world of creation. Is this solely the result of boredom, or was it an innate desire to create?  Whatever the case, convention has been redesigned. And, actually, convention has been re-redesigned.

His original magic pipe was stolen in July 2008 in Canada by a couple of what must be huge morons.  Why is it morons are always trying to screw everything up? We can’t say for sure but can delight in the fact that a newly designed magic pipe has been born of this ordeal.

With the new pipe, That1Guy, as he goes by on stage, is able to craft more into the sonic landscape than was possible with the first pipe. It’s made of a different metal, has more triggers and effects, and as a result has a much wider range of sonic characteristics and capabilities.  He’s also got an electric cowboy boot, a musically adapted handsaw, a single snare drum, a cowbell foot pedal, and a rather strange lyrical content.

Could you need anything else? How about a year’s experience touring with guitar madman Buckethead? That’s about enough to make anybody flip their shit and go crazy! Will That1Guy ever be the same!? Doubtful.

This is the 10th year on the road with That1Guy and the magic pipe. This innovative mind is stopping in Fargo for his third time and playing the Aquarium tonight. Yes, you read that right.  Tonight, Thursday the 26th.

The show begins at 9:30 p.m., so don’t be late to come and check out this futuristically inclined traveling minstrel.  Advance tickets are not a bad idea. So, go get ya some right now, and I’ll see you there gettin’ down in your dancin’ shoes.
