American Idol-April 22, 2008

It’s down to the nitty gritty of the Final 6, and while I’m not a huge fan of musicals, even if they are Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, anything is better than last weeks Mariah Carey-themed show. The only good part of it was Kristi finally went home.

The Exceptional:

There were two stand-out performances of the night: Syesha started the show with the most fun performance of the night and the best of the females. She looked great and showed a ton of personality, which is the thing she’s really been lacking. It’s quite possible she’ll end up in the bottom 3, though.

David Cook was the final singer and ended the show with a bang singing Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera. Now, I’m sure the only reason he did it is because Paul Stanley played the Phantom for some time, but whatever the reason was it was really solid and the best performance of the night. This easily gets him to the Final 3.

The Good:

This should have been David A’s night to shine, but his performance lacked a bit at times. It was still better than most, though, and will get him through another week.

Carly’s performance of Jesus Christ Superstar was one of her better performances of the year. She’s still a disappointment over all but this may have saved her from elimination.

The Bad:

Brooke started the season as a fan and judge favorite but her popularity has waned over the last few weeks. This performance was a disaster from the first note and will land her in the bottom 3 again. I still think she’s got a little left in her and will stick around.

Jason Castro sang “Memory” one of the most known songs from Broadway and it was a mistake. He looked awkward and you could tell he felt that way, too. Seated some of the time and wearing a white suit all while his vocals were incredibly whiny does not make a good performance. This should land him in the bottom group.

The Results:

The bottom three this week, based on performance, should be Brooke, Jason and Carly, but look for Syesha to sneak in there instead of Carly. Who goes home is getting tougher to call each week but I think Jason and Brooke still have the popularity to get them through, which means the third best singer, Syesha, will probably be going home.
