The Wood Brothers

This year will mark the second return of The Wood Brothers to 10KLF. Since their last visit to the area they have released their sophomore album titled “Loaded.” The album is folk rootsy blues at its finest.
The men behind this great sound are Oliver and Chris Wood, two brothers who grew up in Boulder, Colorado. Going their separate ways after coming of age, Oliver moved down south to Atlanta and Chris headed up to New York City. Both found themselves gaining residency and musical niches in their newfound cities.

Oliver played with a well renowned band called “King Johnson” down south in Atlanta. They were a foot to the floor southern blues band. The experience as guitarist gave Oliver many of his musical chops. Meanwhile, Chris had started an eclectic jazz group up north, three piece called Medeski, Martin and Wood.

After several years of separation the brothers reunited. “When we got together we blended years and years of musical experiences,” said Oliver. The result of a jazz bassist and a blues guitarist reuniting musically equals a sound that is not ordinary.

“In a way we had a reunion and were able to bond two very different musical backgrounds. We took all our separate experiences over the past 15 or 20 years and blended them together to make The Wood Brothers,” said Oliver.
Anyone new to The Wood Brothers experience can’t deny the beautiful songwriting on their albums.

“All the writing comes from personal experience, I write about things I have felt,” confesses Oliver. On the new album, label mate and Fargo favorite Amos Lee sings a verse on the cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Angel”.

“To feel effective through a cover song I have to relate to the lyrics as well,” said Oliver. The sincerity shines bright through each and every song the brothers have recorded.

The Wood Brothers certainly have an undeniable reverence for music as well as a unique sound.

They will perform a blend of bluesy rootsy folk that will toddle every emotion within the human psyche. Oliver promises to play a few teasers never heard before at the festival and they shall be unforgettable.
