Band Aide: The Absolute Gruv

I hate to add my own bias but I am very excited about this show and I promise you will not be disappointed if you decide to go. Playing April 2 at the Nestor will be Absolute Gruv and The Brothers Burn Mountain.
Absolute Gruv comes from Minneapolis with a jammy, bluesy, soulful, R&B sound. They have four pieces: Ian Wilson (guitar), Sam Hankey (keyboards), Clay Whitney (drums), Brandon James (bass) and all four of them chime in on vocals.
They have toured mostly around the Midwest but this summer will be making a trip up to Canada, eh! I have seen them many times and their shows are a blast. Their music is very easy for a crowd to get into and you will find yourself dancing without even knowing it. If you have seen and enjoyed Roster McCabe then you will definitely love Absolute Gruv.
The Brothers Burn Mountain are a very interesting group. Listening to some of their music, I find their sound to be very peaceful and tranquil. In my own words, I like to call it mountain folk. Their songs are based mostly on acoustic folk but some show little hints of other genres like rock and world.
I could really sense their spirituality coming through the music. While browsing their website http://www.thebrothersburnmountain.com, I came across a self-description that I really enjoyed. “Ryan and Jesse grew up as brothers, but it was around 1997 that they began working on music together. Over the years, backpacking for months at a time in Europe, France in particular, they have written songs marked by sunrises over the Mediterranean Sea and fields and hills and smells of nature. Spending time in nature feeds their music. Inspired, as Jesse once said, by the imperfect waverings of nature.”
