Cutting-Edge Metal Concert / Motorcycle Stunt Thrill Show
For one night only, an evening of death-defying motorcycle stunts mixed with alternative metal music will come to Fargo through Grindco Productions, on its Motopsycho Mania motorcycles, music, and mayhem tour.
This early outdoors hybrid show will have everything for an evening of fun and excitement including food and beverages.
Accompanying alternative metal bands, Sevendust, Drowning Pool, Nonpoint, and Means to an End, will be FMX freestyle motocross riders including Jack Rowe, a young up-and-comer who’s been placing well in the last few IFMA contests, the Globe of Death from Las Vegas, and extreme street stunts on sport bikes.
On the music side of the show, Sevendust, with their seventh album, “Hope and Sorrow” and three gold albums under their belt, will join the tour after finishing Ozzfest in Dallas.
Supporting band Drowning Pool with their third album, “Full Circle” just released a video of their newest single, titled “37 Stitches” on August 4th which has been receiving incredible responses at shows and on radio.
Also with a third album out, titled “Vengeance,” is Nonpoint, alternating shows with Sevendust and Drowning Pool on their summer schedule.
Tony “Grinder” Dwyer, Grindco producer, Means to an End frontman, and former BMXer, let us in on more about this explosive event.
HPR: Where did you get the idea to pair a rock show with motorcycles?
Tony: I’ve owned Grindco Sports Entertainment Company for a number of years and we’ve done sports shows at other concert festivals in the past. This one, me just putting it together was all the elements of what I wanted to see at a show and basically just made it happen. Bringing the motorcycles into more of a concert atmosphere of colored lights and strobe lights and stuff like that and just making it more of a rock concert for the motorcycles as well.
Why motorcycles this time around?
For this kind of show, with the bands that are involved with it, we were basically looking to reach a little bit of an older audience. Tony Hawk has been doing that HuckJam thing and he’s got the show out there for the little kids. When you bring skateboarding around, that’s the age of kids that come out for skateboarding.
How did you decide on the bands for the lineup?
It was a combination of the type of music I was looking for and the agency that represents my band and this tour and who they suggested to put on it.
How is the show run with the bikes and bands?
It’s a real fast moving show. It kind of rotates but nothing is going on at the same time. In between bands when people are normally standing, staring at a stage with roadies switching out band equipment, they won’t be doing that at this. In between bands there will be some motorcycle stuff going on.
Tell us about, Means To An End, the band at the show to which you are the front man for.
I formed the band in ‘03 and kind of have been able to put the band in real good situations by attaching it to shows like this and playing arenas and festival-sized crowds. It’s kind of an industrial heavy band. I’ve got the former bass player from Prong, Mike Longworth. He and I have been working on new material we might be busting out at these couple of shows that are coming up. The CD [Reaction] is coming out in October, it’s going to be in stores everywhere. Then we’re shooting a live video along with the action sports motorcycle footage of this tour. Then we’re going to have a combination live DVD/CD package that will be in stores by Christmas.
It’s hard enough setting up a concert. How do you do that on top of doing a stunt show?
Fortunately, all three elements of the motorcycle stuff...I’ve done so many shows with these guys, the Globe of Death guys; his name is John Stotts. The guy does hundreds of shows a year. All my motorcycle guys are pretty much on point. All you really got to do is point them in the way stuff needs to be set up and just leave them alone. I’m responsible for 65 people on this tour but really everybody’s pretty much responsible for themselves. I primarily see over all the motorcycle production and then my one band. The other bands got their own people that deal with them. Once we all get together at each location all I’m really doing is going around to everybody with the set times and they handle it. It seems like it’s bigger than it actually is.
