Deck The Halls with Garland

What better way to give on this holiday season than to come to the Aquarium on Thursday, December 8th for Deck the Halls with Garland? Local musician Beth Garland was seriously injured earlier this November, after being hit by a drunk driver in downtown Fargo, and she needs our help. Friends and fellow musicians have put together this event to help raise money to cover steep hospital expenses acquired by Garland after the accident. With the help of friends and the community, Beth can have the chance to recover in greater peace.
Described by her friend and fellow band mate, Eden Parker, as “one of the most talented musicians I know,” Beth Garland certainly has in huge impact on those around her. As a musician, she is a percussionist, vocalist, songwriter, and even dabbles with the guitar. One can find her displaying her talent around town with the group Fancy That, and also with local singer/songwriter Eden Parker singing harmonies and rocking out on the drums. She is soft spoken girl with enormous talent and a big heart. “She is a great person to have a music conversation with. She really appreciates the technicalities of songs,” says Rosie Sauvageu. “You can always tell she appreciates having the opportunity to be able to perform and play music to people.”
There will be many opportunities to donate at this event – the cover at the door will be a mere $3, there will be baked goods and Christmas wreaths for sale, and there is also chance to snap a Christmas photo with friends for keepsakes. All the proceeds will go to Beth. Freewill donations will be encouraged and accepted throughout the night with the help of Beth’s friends, including the two hosts of the night Rosie Sauvageau and Natalie Lindberg.
In order to attract as many people as possible to the event, it is set up to be a fun and entertaining. There is a full line up of awesome performers including Little Winter, Shane Maland, Eden Parker, Amanda Standalone, Mark Proulx, and Rosie Sauvageau. Each performed will also be doing their own rendition(s) of their favorite Christmas song while also playing their own original works. To amp up the Christmas theme even more, everyone is encouraged to wear an ugly Christmas sweater. Word is Eden Parker makes some sweet Christmas wreaths so don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to celebrate the holidays in style.
If you cannot make it to the event, but would still like to donate, you can contact Eden Parker through Facebook, where he can direct your contribution. Beth Garland, being the kindhearted person she is, would be very grateful for all the help she can get. Sauvageu told HPR “Beth’s recovery is coming along quicker than anticipated, but she still has a long ways to go. We are hoping she will be able to make a short appearance at the event, but it is not a sure thing.”
Let this be lesson in knowing your limits with drinking. If it is questionable that you or a friend should be driving after having some drinks, that is good indication to avoid getting behind a wheel. Is getting a DUI or possibly hurting yourself or someone else ever worth risking?
Accidents such as these can and should be prevented. With slippery roads ahead, let’s make this holiday extra safe.
