High Plains Festival Coverage - Welcome

High Plains Festival Coverage - Welcome

Welcome to the Soo Pass Ranch and the High Plains Festival, we are very excited to have you come and celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with toe-tapping American music and camping in the great outdoors.  Start your adventure with a nature hike around the Soo Pass Ranch. Head east to the County Highway 22 underpass and explore the rolling hills, lowlands and grassy plains. Check out the Hilltop that will give you a panoramic view of the area. Go west to the Highway 59 underpass and you will run into Lake Sallie. Bring a swimsuit and take a dip in the cool refreshing water; head north and you will run into the trail system that takes you over to the picturesque Dunton Locks.

The High Plains Reader Saloon opens at 5pm on Friday where you will find food and Summit Brewing Company. Grab a brew and get ready for a night of music with Michael Pink, the Further Adjustments, OFOSHO and Four on the Floor. Each group brings a different sound and attitude to the High Plains Festival. The evening’s music is free to the public.

Saturday is the big day when we welcome fast-picking Trampled by Turtles back to the Ranch. The saloon opens at noon and Hardwood Groove takes the stage at 6:30. The Summit Barn stage kicks off at 7:30 with Caroline Smith backed by The Turtles then continuous music on the stages until Sovereign Sect ends the night. During the day take a hike south on 59 to the Shady Hollow Flea Market for food and shopping or head north into Detroit Lakes where you will find shopping, groceries, a liquor store and many great places to eat. The Detroit Lakes beach is a must-see over the weekend. A mile long sand beach runs from the city park where you will also find a nine hole disc golf course. No trip to the beach would be complete without a stop at Zorbaz Pizza, Lakeside Lodge and El Metate Mexican restuartant.

Sunday plan a trip down the Ottertail River located about 10 miles east on Hwy 34. Here you will be able to rent an inner tube and get dropped off by a bus at the top for a three hour lazy relaxing meander back to the bottom. It is like sitting in a moving recliner. On Sunday night the saloon stage will be stomping to the bluegrass and folk music. Stick around Monday for Fireworks on the beach and we wish you safe travels back home. See you next year.
