This week’s Songspiel begins with a song called “Think About It”. It’s historical significance comes largely from the fact that it is one of the most sampled songs in hip-hop history. Everyone from Public Enemy to Samatha Fox to Janet Jackson to The Black Eyed Peas and even Madonna have sampled a drum break from this song. This famous drum break is called the “Woo! Yeah!” drum break because it features James Brown screaming “Woo!” and “Yeah!.”  Follow this week’s Songspiel through the early years of hip-hop when break beats like, “Woo! Yeah!” and “Funky Drummer”, were being harvested from soul and funk records for the production of hip-hop music.
