J-Sauce at the Aquarium

J-Sauce, a native rapper with roots in California and Texas will be performing this Friday at the Aquarium. The first half the of the show he is opening to the kids, devoting four hours to an all ages show. The 21+ part starts at 10 p.m. and goes until close. Price is $10.

J-Sauce has put together a diverse line-up of performers that includes 701 Klik, Top Notch, Embra Tor, T-Mac of TNT, and Westkoast of Los Angel Crew. J-Sauce is promoting the release of his new album, “Northern Hospitality.” Three singles from that album, Livin’ My Life, Ridin’ Sidin,’ and My Ten can currently be heard on Y-94. Y-94 will also be broadcasting live 5-7 p.m. from the Aquarium with radio personality Johnny Marks.

J-Sauce said Ice Cube, LL, Rahkim, EPMD, Ice T, Slick Rick, E 40, and Scarface are some of his influences.

Listening to the tracks from his website, myspace.com/coldcatrecords, one hears influences he hasn’t cited.

There are country twangs on one his singles, “Livin’ my Life.” The vernacular and beats are hip-hop but the guitar hook is catchy and used primarily in the chorus.

Another song, “My ten,” is hip-hop in beats but r&b in singing style. There is a voice with a electronic tinge in the background that pulls the listener into the song.

J-Sauce is also a promoter. He has put on Spring Jam Weekend for the past eleven years. The last show included artists from five states and two days worth of music.
J-Sauce knows how to sing, promote, and produce. He has a new album to promote, has songs on the radio, and helps put on a weekend long hip hop show.
