Keefe Green’s 2nd Annual Solstice Shakedown--Sturgis
If you want to take a drive, check out Keefe Green’s 2nd Annual Solstice Shakedown in Sturgis, SD on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21. Agent Cooper Concepts and Keefe Green Productions have joined forces this year to put together a day of music and eco-awareness. Though the festival focuses on local talent, it does bring in some stellar acts to help promote green thinking. The two-day fest offers an amazing lineup of music plus eco-workshops, organic foods and brews, swimming, disc golf, and volleyball.
Solstice Shakedown brings yet another opportunity to see New Orleans’ own beloved Papa Mali and his signature swamp-funk. Papa Mali will be appearing Friday and then driving on to Log Jam in Minnesota on Saturday.
Friday’s schedule also includes: Violent Hippie (an oxymoron), Batteries, The Johnson Family Band (always good for a bluegrass tune or a mountain holler), and that Sioux Falls band Solution, whose music can be heard in behind a lot of television shows, including MTV’s The Life of Ryan and Road Rules. (These boys will be cooking their musical stew at 10KLF next month.)
Saturday’s shows showcase Tommy the Silent, Corduroy Vinyl, Mandan’s favorite son Ben Suchy Bandwith, those blues/punkers Black Diamond Heavies, Minneapolis beat-genius Heatbox, and Bismarck’s own jammers Gypsyfoot. Closing out the night will be the Jalan Crossland Band, a bluegrass-driven band, heavy on musical chops (killer acoustic guitar!) with some pretty ladies to look at and some tongue-in-cheek tunes for your listening and dancing enjoyment.
The whole sheebang will be at the Buffalo Chip Campground outside of Sturgis. Gates open at 3pm on Friday, June 20 and music starts at 6 pm on Friday and 2 pm on Saturday.
Tickets are available at http://www.rallytickets.com/solstice/Wizard.aspx Friday only: $15; Saturday only: $20; Two-day passes are not available online but you can check at the gate. Free camping. All ages, kids 12 and under free. Rain or shine; no refunds.
