Knuckleheads Unite: Five Finger Death Punch Storms Fargo
Get ready all you Midwest metal heads! Five Finger Death Punch are making there way through Fargo. In case you are not familiar enough to be claimed a ‘knucklehead,’ a nickname given to their growing fan base, 5FDP puts on a show any avid high-energy concert enthusiast would enjoy.
Ivan “Ghost” Moody (formerly of ‘Ghost Machine’/Motograter) brings a sickly sweet lyrical style, while Zoltan Bathory (formerly of U.P.O.), Jeremy Spencer (formerly of W.A.S.P.), Matt Snell (formerly of Anubis Rising), and Darrell Roberts (formerly of W.A.S.P.) back him up with heavy guitar riffs and rumbling drum lines that pushes the term aggression up a notch.
Bathory got the crew together in Los Angeles in 2005, launching their debut album “The Way of the Fist” in 2007. The re-release of “The Way of the Fist” hit stores this month with three new bonus tracks, including an acoustic version of their hit single ‘The Bleeding,’ and an unreleased song titled ‘Never Enough.’
5FDP is a combination of multiple former bands that blends both years of experience and the dream of being onstage . “We have all been metal heads since we were young. It’s all we know,” says bassist Matt Snell. “We eat, drink, breathe, and live this stuff.” As for their Fargo visit, 5FDP are just as anxious as their fans. “I’ve never been to Fargo before, but can’t wait,” says Snell. “I’ve always wondered if it is actually like the movie.”
If you’re still curious about 5FDP, check them out. Spencer’s ‘double-drum’ antics and Moody’s antisocial, angry lyrics are sure enough to keep you as energized and as wild as the band name itself.
The name ‘Five Finger Death Punch’ does have a humorous creation. “We were all sitting around watching Kill Bill Vol. 2, when we saw the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique,” Snell says. In case you are not familiar with this flick, The Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique is what the ‘Bride’ actually uses to kill Bill (sorry if I ruined the ending, but you know). Hence, 5FDP was born.
This may the first, but definitely not the last time you hear of these guys. Getting recognition from artists across the country, 5FDP caught the attention of the artists Korn and gained a spot on last falls ‘Bitch We Got A Problem’ Tour, which included Korn, HellYeah, and Droid to name a few.
They rocked thousands of fans the previous summer as well, where their ‘no holds bar’ approach was felt and consumed by many, creating an army of ‘knuckleheads’ that don’t seem to be throwing in the towel on 5FDP anytime soon.
If you really cannot catch the Fargo show, or just need more 5FDP, don’t be worried. 5FDP will be touring with Disturbed this summer, and will be kicking off the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival this July.
5FDP is what many have begun to call the transition of metal into the new era. Still don’t believe it? I’ll quote the album (expletives deleted); “You may have won the battle. But know this, I’ll win the war..”
So choose your side wisely, because these guys have come out swinging and show no signs of stopping anytime soon.
