May 8 What’s Happening GF
It’s Springfest on Saturday, brought to you this year by the Rhombus guys. Bands playing are Reconcile (rock), North Valley Ramblers (newgrass), Still Fighting It (jazz/rock covers), and Colie Paulson (acoustic country/pop covers). There’s a fest afterparty at the Long Haul Saloon, serving up Whiskey Vaccine and Identity 5. It’s Identity 5’s CD release party.
As a prelude to that musical craziness, you can check out two events that will be competing downtown. The first is Dylan vs Cash, which is pitting eight bands on a single night to produce their takes on tunes from musical legends Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. The band will offer everything from newgrass to blues to rock to punk to folk. (North River Ramblers, Dewayne Wakeman and Ron Franz, Hasty Ladies, Noblemen(formerly Wheat Missle), June Panic and Wife, House Guitars, Andrew McCabe, Peatmoss), Muddy Rivers, 9 pm, $4 advance, $5 door
The other event is the Heatbox CD release party at the Crosstown. Nick “The Feelin” Mrozinski will open, $5 with a free beer! It’s a tough choice since my husband’s playing the Dylan vs Cash event.
Plus, there’s a shipload of dance bands hitting the area at all of the local watering holes, including Great Outdoors at the Diamond.
