My Summer Soundtrack: MSI’s New Album
Mindless Self Indulgence is a band whose genre is one to be pondered. Do you like Punk? Rap? Metal? Techno? MSI strikes a chord with all these categories on their latest album titled “If.” If you haven’t been able to consider yourself an MSI fan this album may change your mind. It is a strange blend of metal, rap, electronics, and punk that sounds so bitter sweet I became hooked the second I heard it.
Each track is as energized as the next. It begins with “Never Wanted To Dance,” which would fit any head bangers taste, then jumps to hip-hop with the songs “Issues” and “Get It Up” to the songs “Lights Out” and “On it,” which could create a killer dance party.
“If” tends to veer away from MSI’s past albums and style, leaving you in more of a hyper “dance-crazy” mood rather than scared and depressed. Jimmy Urine brings his typical gruesome sex-crazed lyrics along with some of the most interesting programming I have heard in some time.
“If” is the perfect follow-up to their last hit album “You’ll Rebel To Anything”, and to sound so opposite yet still sound great shows extreme talent. Each track has its own unique sound and, honestly, not one track will bore you. Also, the price for this album could not be better. I snatched my copy for only $10. I know I found my soundtrack for the summer. I can’t wait to hear what MSI throws at us next.
