NDOMA Sculpture Garden Tuesdays
The North Dakota Museum of Art has launched a new summer music event. Located in the beautiful outdoor sculpture garden, regional musicians will spice up our summer evenings at special five music events. The first show is Tuesday June 24!
Known for supporting live music, usually classical events, the North Dakota Museum of Art will open its garden to six very unusual musical acts on select Tuesdays during the summer.
The first show is Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 7 - 9 pm. Jazz on Tap will offer Brazilian jazz with special guests Selmara and Brian Rydell. Selmara Rydell, a Brazilian jazz singer, who started her career in musical theater. She did backup for Marcia Freire, formerly of Cheiro de Amor, a well-known Brazilian pop group, and toured with her throughout Latin America, as well as Lisbon, Portugal. Selmara later came to the US and became part of a Minneapolis-based band called Ticket to Brasil. This bossa nova, samba, and Brazilian jazz band was founded by guitarist/percussionist Pavel Jany. It was here that Selmara met percusionist Brian Rydell. Brian discovered a love for Brazilian rhythms while studying at McNally Smith College of Music (formerly Music Tech) in Minneapolis. He traveled to Brazil to soak up the richness of the music. When he returned to the US, he joined Ticket to Brasil and found more than music.
Museum chef Justin Welsh will keep the coals on the grill hot, providing hamburgers and hotdogs for the listeners’ purchase, along with soda, chips and salad. In addition, beer and wine will be served. Tickets for each event are $5 for adults. Children 12 years old and under are free.
All events will be outdoors with no seating provided so bring a lawn chair or a blanket. In the event of rain, the concerts will be moved into the museum galleries.
This year’s sponsors include the Summit Brewing Company, HB Sound and Lights, Economy Plumbing, and Rite Spot Liquor Store.
