New Medicine: A Minneapolis Band Joins UPROAR

Minneapolis’s own New Medicine injects a little hope into hard rock on their debut
album, Race You to the Bottom, due out this fall on Photo Finish Records.
Each song tells a story, whether it’s about the loss of a loved one on “Little Sister” or
the state of the world on “Race You to the Bottom.”
New Medicine is bringing that same hard rock hope to the Jagermeister Stage every night during the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival.
According to Jake Scherer, lead vocals and founder of New Medicine, he
has the “best bass player I know [Matthew Brady], best drummer I know
[Ryan Guanzon], and best guitarist I know [Dan Garland] so as long as I
can do something good we’re good!”
Three of the four band members went to middle and high school together and they had known Guanzon for years.
Scherer explained how New Medicine got their record deal in the summer of
2009. They were on tour with Candlebox and had some formal showcases
where, as Scherer described it, “We were playing for rooms full of guys in
suits…all of a sudden, after a show in New York City the head of Photo Finish
was like ‘Dude, I’m going to give you a record deal. Let’s go take shots of
Maker’s right now.’ Now that’s my kind of record deal!”
Where they are today is about to release their first album “Race You To The
Bottom” and on tour with some of the biggest up and coming bands in the music
business. As Scherer put it, “It’s pretty bad-ass. When they told us there’s like
ten thousand tickets sold already we’re like, sweet.
It’s like walking by the Target Center ten thousand times and saying ‘One day, one day, one day we’ll play that.’ One day is today and it’s pretty amazing. “
New Medicine toured for four months before coming on board with UPROAR.
Scherer says that now they are like a “well-oiled machine…bringing new tricks
to the table that we’ve learned from other bands.”
And Brady says they “are ready to get the show rocking for everybody that’s brave enough to come out early.”
The band sums up how they play and what they stand for in their name. “Everybody has a different medicine. Whether it’s coffee, drugs, alcohol or cigarettes,” says Scherer. “When I was growing up, music was the only medicine I needed. If I was really bummed out about something, I’d put a record on and it’d cheer me up. Music’s the ultimate healer.”
