Not a Pounding in Your Heart, But Your Head

Spending your Valentine’s evening alone? Are you a young male looking to pay back your significant other for dragging you along for a three hour exodus into the hell that is the mall? Take my suggestion and make your way to The Venue at The Hub on Feb. 14 for San Diego’s metalcore outfit, As I Lay Dying (AILD). AILD is currently touring in support of their latest album “The Powerless Rise” released via Metal Blade records. This latest record has been called the group’s best work to date, and coming from a band with Grammy nominations, MTV’s “Ultimate Metal God” award, and San Diego’s artist of the year, that surely is saying something.

Prepare your ear drums for a bludgeoning. A commanding two-guitar attack from Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso is reinforced with the battering ram of Josh Gilbert and Jordan Mancino on bass and drums respectively. This is all capped off by Tim Lambesis shredding his vocal chords on the mic. Folks, This is definitely not a date worthy of “The Notebook”, but it is one everyone in attendance—couples or otherwise—will surely not soon forget.
