Rosemary Sauvageau: Heart and Soul
By Michael Weiler

Some musicians are blessed with the gift of song in their hearts, and some in their souls. Rosemary Sauvageau is blessed with both. She creates songs that swim and swirl in her soul, but come from her heart.
“I hear songs all the time,” Sauvageau notes, “mostly they write themselves in my head. And I keep them there, working on them until they are done.”
“If I write them down too soon, they get all jumbled and messed up. And I hate the ones that come at night!” Sauvageau said with a laugh.
Though born in Texas, Sauvageau was raised in Fargo. “I really had a phobia of playing live,” she admits.
So what did she do? She put it on the line and played live for the first time three years ago. Exposure therapy at its finest.
“Singing and playing is really new to me,” Sauvageau said. “I am a piano player first and foremost, singing and performing just kind of happened naturally.”
Sauvageau decided to follow her instincts and keep playing; a wise choice on her part. Slowly but surely, she built up to where she is now—with the release of her first CD under her belt, and a focus toward the future.
“My CD release was really about a journey for me. It was all about the end of a relationship I had. It was very therapeutic for me in the end.”
And the journey keeps developing for Sauvageau, who is garnering attention from local venues, media and more importantly other musicians from Fargo.
“I really love the community here in Fargo,” she said. “Everyone gets along. Everyone plays shows together, and supports one another. It feels right.”
Sauvageau proves that sometimes it’s okay to follow your heart and to listen to your soul. It’s what music really is all about. And luckily, we have artists like her to bring us along on the journey.
