Rothbury Music Festival Day 2

Rothbury Day 2:  The weather on the 4th of July here in Michigan was gorgeous, high 70’s low 80’s.
Here is a perspective from the crowd of Day 2:
Sam Beam (Iron and Wine) -  With an early afternoon set, Sam warmed up to the crowd, making lots of references to how the hippies are all supposed to be “chill, and easy going.”  He laughed quite a bit, and teased the audience for their clapping along to the music he was solely providing with his acoustic guitar.
A few from his set:
*Pagan Angel And A Borrowed Car
*Boy With A Coin
*The Devil Never Sleeps
*Peace Beneath the City
*The Trapeze Swinger
Snoop Dogg:  What can you say about the rapper who still finds a way to party and play ANYWHERE?  Snoop and his entourage, 6 gentlemen in fine suits standing on the sides of the stage,  had the largest audience of the festival at that point.  The set was a party atmosphere, and not for the families who had children with them at the festival.  F-The Police was chanted through out the concert bowl, as well as “Gin and Juice” and plenty of opportunities to encourage the crowd to smoke weed as he did on stage.
Drive-By Truckers:  I had to pass up Keller Williams for DBT,(It’s Not a Festival without Keller!) to catch Patterson Hood and company going through a fantastic country/rock set.  Hood is a great lyricist and storyteller, and in the vein of Jeff Tweedy, knows just how to be a showman as well.
*Self Destructive Zones
*That Man I Shot
*Marry Me
*You and Your Crystal Meth
*Brighter Than Your Creation’s Dark
*The Company I Keep

311:  Leaving DBT, I walked over to the main stage to catch 311.  The band was running around, feeding the crowd with their brand of high-octane rap/rock.  Nick Hexum led the crowd through numerous call and response, waving hands, and jumping directions, which they happily obliged.
Some of the set:
*Down
*Freeze Time
*Prisoner
*Hive
*Amber
Modest Mouse:  By far the loudest show I’ve heard hear yet, and they were competing with 311 on the main stage.  It was almost like Isaac Brock and former Smith’s guitarist Johnny Marr were giving middle-fingers to the main stage, as they blew threw a full-throttle set of older material and new material.  By far the largest crowd for a band not associated with the jamband scene.
Some of the set:
*Bury Me With It
*Education
*Satin In a Coffin
*Dashboard
*Tiny Cities Made of Ashes
*Missed the Boat
*We’ve Got Everything
*Spitting Venom (with 2 added verses not on the album)
(And of course the Fireworks show at Midnight was nothing less than impressive.)

That’s all from this guy from day 2 at Rothbury.  Will check in tomorrow.
