Shoeless in Fargo
This Friday, the Minneapolis high-energy band, Shoeless Revolution, will be grooving at The Nestor, pumping out their brand of funk/reggae/rock fusion. These players are equally comfortable kicking a tasty cover up a notch or laying down their own original tunes.
This multi-piece ensemble formed three years ago when seven highly-trained musicians decided to blend the best of their diverse backgrounds in jazz and classical performance, creating a new soulful sound that sometimes drifts into the quirky.
Backing up a classic rock musical formula with Eric Streske on guitar and Ben Peterson on bass, Jack Sabol-Williams adds color with keyboards and shares drum duties with Reed Grimm who also plays guitar. Grimm, Peterson, and Sabol-Williams also share vocals. But it is what the band has dubbed “The Tri-Tone Army” that gives Shoeless Revolution its versatility and its flavor.
This trio is a solid horn section that drives the band. Jim Piela plays a couple of different saxophones, Nick Carlson plays sax and clarinet, and Kevin Klemme handles the trumpet. At Friday’s Nestor show, Will Nissen of Down Lo will be joining the horn line, playing tenor horn.
And if you’re wondering, yes, these guys all shed their footwear when they take the stage. Some keep their socks on, but most just face their audiences with tootsies au naturel.
Join the revolution at Nestor on Friday. The Mystical Overtones from Cooperstown, ND will open with their bluesy/rockabilly/British invasion sound.
And, look for Shoeless Revolution at the Bella Madre Festival at Harmony Park coming up May 22-24.
