Standing Room For All
If you thought you knew a few uppity bastards in town, wait until you see these guys. On Wednesday, May 14, the Aquarium is hosting Stand-Uppity, a nationally touring threesome of funny.
Ever heard of a stand-up comedy show outside of a stand-up comedy venue? Well, let the night go crazy, and come downtown to check this out. Stand-up comedy in a rock venue! Andy Kindler, Marc Maron, and Eugene Mirman are coming to Fargo just to make you laugh. Feeling special? Hailing from Television, these three men mean business--funny business.
You’ve seen Andy Kindler all over Comedy Central. He’s got his own half-hour of “Comedy Central Presents,” has worked on “The Daily Show,” “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” and is currently on Lewis Black’s “The Root of All Evil.” He’s written a book, the “Hack’s Handbook” for National Lampoon that satires and exposes tired comedy formulas. He’ll tell you what’s wrong with the world of entertainment and make fun of his fellow comedians. Bearing the title “anchor of the tour,” as he, by his own wording states, “will drag us to the bottom,” Andy Kindler is sure to get you laughing.
Marc Maron has been called: neurotic, a story teller, a problem, brilliant, an important voice, heady, and f**king funny. A woman once told him, “You’re like an Iggy Pop Woody Allen,” which Maron states is a “reasonable description of where I’m at lately.”
He has written a book, “The Jerusalem Syndrome,” which is kept out of print by distributors who feel the copies already out there may have collector’s value. This is a man living his dream. “I have appeared on TV, in film, on stage, in print, on the radio, but all I ever wanted to be, and what I am now, is a stand-up comic.” He is currently working on something with HBO. He’s angry, tells the truth, is funny in spite of it.
Eugene Mirman is a gangster who tried to kill the star of a reality show in Jon Glaser’s new Adult Swim series called “Delocated.” Eugene has taken part in Patton Oswalt’s “Comedians of Comedy,” and can be seen on the DVD. No stranger to the music world, Mirman has opened for Modest Mouse, the Shins, and Cake. He’s been all over television as well, appearing on the likes of the Food Network as a spokes-potato for Potato Week, on HBO’s “Flight of the Concordes,” Cartoon Network’s “Aqua Teen Hunger Force”, and “Home Movies.” He’s got two comedy albums out, released to critical acclaim. He loves seafood, backgammon, kissing, and whiskey, so let’s get him drunk and see if it’s funny.
Get off the anti-depressants, America, let’s go to a comedy show. These medicine men of funny are ready to let you have the good stuff. Remember, nothing is as funny when you’re not there, so…grab a snifter of port and come Stand-Uppity! We’ll drink with our pinkie fingers out!
