TODAY: Cool Jazz at NDOMA Sculpture Garden Tuesday, 7-8:30 pm
The North Dakota Museum of Art’s summer concerts continue today in the beautiful outdoor sculpture garden.
Paul Peterson, a jazz sax player, arranger, and composer from St. Paul, will bring his own brand of swing to the museum’s grounds. Adept on tenor, soprano, and baritone saxophones, Peterson appears regularly with Northern Cargo, the Nova Jazz Orchestra, Century College Big Band, CC Septet, and sHorn hortZ. He will be joined by Tom Wogsland (River City Jazz) on trombone and UND music professor, Mike Blake (Jazz on Tap) on drums. Adding silky jazz guitar work to this mix will be John Behling (John Behling Trio and River City Jazz), who will soon be moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, next month to finish his dissertation. And finally, bass man Matt Strand will fill out the quintet. Strand has been a familiar face in the region, having also played in Fatlip/Goove Union, Drambuee, Project 24, Northland Jazz Project, Sketched in Blue, Still Fighting It, John Behling Trio, and the Dick King Classic Swing Orchestra.
Museum chef Justin Welsh will keep the coals on the grill hot, providing hamburgers and hotdogs for the listeners’ purchase, along with soda, chips and salad. In addition, beer and wine will be served. Tickets for each event are $5 for adults. Children 12 years old and under are free.
All events will be outdoors with no seating provided so bring a lawn chair or a blanket. In the event of rain, the concerts will be moved into the museum galleries.
This year’s sponsors include the Summit Brewing Company, HB Sound and Lights, Economy Plumbing, and Rite Spot Liquor Store.
