TR3 - Elevate The Mind
Tim Reynolds is having one busy summer, but it doesn’t seem to affect his daily routines.
He has been touring with the Dave Matthews Band this summer, coming off of recording a new album for TR3 and also studio work for DMB.
Night in, night out, Reynolds has lent his shredding skills to ignite DMB’s catalog, as well as new covers this summer.
TR3 is Tim Reynolds on guitar, Dan Martier on drums, and Mick Vaughn on bass, and they will be bringing their experimental rock show to the 10,000 Lakes Festival next week.
HPR: You’ve been pretty busy in 2008 with TR3, DMB, and the studio recording new material.
Tim Reynolds: I want to take advantage of playing music while I can. Just making the best of all opportunities, you know?
HPR: With Mick and Dan and yourself as the new TR3, are you planning on releasing another album once this summer is done?
TR: We went into the studio in May and hope to release it after this summer.
HPR: I thought that I read that you were busy recording new material with TR3 and that you were also in the studio helping record DMB’s new album as well.
TR: That was earlier in the year—it’s all been kind of a blur (laughs) I kind of lost track of all of it. I’ve been going back and forth between gigs and then I spent a week with TR3 in the studio between all that, which was great.
As busy as I’ve been, that was really a miracle to get what we did in the studio. With Dan and Mick, we’re really quick studies of music and I feel like I’ve been playing with them for a lot longer than we really have. It’s a real symbiotic relationship of a band that feels like we have been together a lot longer because they have been playing together for quite a few years already.
So learning all this music has really bonded us together.
HPR: How do you take care of yourself and spend down time while you are on tour?
TR: I walk a lot and exercise. I try not to eat a whole lot, or not badly. I drink a lot of juice. The other thing I like to do is just listen to music a lot and I really like to spend time reading on the road.
HPR: Are you a fan of nonfiction or fiction?
TR: I like to read nonfiction. I read novels once in awhile. There are different schools of thought when it comes to reading. Some people find nonfiction really boring, and they want to be entertained when they read.
I still like to go to school in my head and I have a lot of different interests, like quantum physics and astronomy, you know the big picture.
I like to read about the teachings of Buddhism; just kind of thinking in different ways, trying to elevate the mind, your mood, and consciousness and try to keep the mind really as open as possible to new ideas.
That’s what is going to keep us moving forward to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.
TR3: Barn Stage, 10KLF; Thurs., July 24, 4 p.m.
