Two Guys With Guitars

Last year West Fargo’s own Michael Pink performed his first show, at the Red Raven, before an audience of three. May 7 at the Venue should bring him a much larger crowd, when he opens for Mason Jennings.
When asked by Jade Presents to perform for Friday’s show Pink showed nothing but enthusiasm. “I am not sure if I sound like him, but we are two guys with guitars,” he said. Over the course of the year Pink has built a name for himself with his unique, easy listening sound and his soft vocals.
For those who have not had the pleasure of listening to his music, Pink is a singer/songwriter who has been called everything from an “acoustic madman” to an “angry Beatle” and a select few say he sounds like Fleetwood Mac. It depends on the song. His music is completely his own and is composed not far from his favorite musical influences. “At heart I am a big music fan. I write music hoping if I was listening to it I would like it,” he said.
Over the course of Pink’s short career he has evolved by playing shows at The Aquarium, the Fargo Theater and opened for artists like Martin Zelmer. He’s established a group of support that is continually growing.
His fans think Pink is a well-rounded artist with a lot of potential for stardom, but when it comes to entertaining his crowd, Pink said, his audience constantly surprises him on what they expect from him so he sticks to playing what he enjoys creating. “I’m just doing what I love to do,” he said. It could be that the key to Pink’s success is not caring too much about his listener’s opinions. “If I’m happy with my music then someone out there has to like it too.”
It is easy to hear why his music is loved. It is so versatile, comparable to music heard in a different era, anywhere from the 70s singer/songwriters to the 90s alternative rock genre. It is all pretty easy-listening and balanced, vocally, lyrically and rhythmically. His music is completely fresh, with a distinct multigenerational sound.
It seems safe to say Pink will be around for awhile. He hopes to tour sometime in the near future and has had a couple of offers of record deals.
