Yes, I’ll Have the Neil Hamburger, Please
Neil Hamburger, aptly titled America’s funnyman, is an original voice with a lot on his mind. “I wish people would spill out of these shopping malls and into my shows. Sometimes it feels like the bomb has dropped they’re so small.”
He’s currently on a comedy tour of the Midwest that will bring him back to Fargo, North Dakota, where he’ll appear at the Aquarium.
Last time he was in town a guy’s eye fell out into the urinal and was damaged. They had to put it on ice, and everything turned out fine in the end.
“There’s a good response in Fargo. I always have a great time.” On stage, Neil frequents the topic of celebrity, and it should be stated that he is an expert, often offering insights the public is unaware of with his brand of “you-heard-it-here-first” attitude.
You’ll hear news so shocking you’ll be emailing Neil for weeks, begging for information on topics like the murder of OJ Simpson, which was discussed in an online televising of Tom Green’s show, among countless other things.
A celebrity in his own right, Neil Hamburger appears regularly on stage and occasionally on television, having appeared on Fox’s “Red Eye,” multiple times, obviously for his incredible knowledge of the celebrity world, and on internet television, as well, with the likes of Tom Green. He’s hosted his own internet TV show called, “Poolside Chats with Neil Hamburger,” and has toured with Tenacious D.
It’s not today’s worship of celebrities that has Neil’s tuxedo pants in a bind. It’s that the celebrities being “worshipped” today are of poor quality. If you think you’ve got what it takes and have always wanted to be in show business, taking your own chance at celebrity, think again. There is not much glamour left in show business, as Neil tells us. There is much more drudgery. “Show business, you think it’s all dancing and putting on sequin suits that’s not what it’s about, it’s about spending time in court or in a bus, or in a broom closet waiting to go on stage. That’s more what this business is about.”
If you’re thinking about getting into the business for the money, “forget about it. There’s better money in flipping cheeseburgers. That’s where all the money is. That’s a regular paycheck.” Is he cynical? Yes.
Eighteen albums and multiple DVD releases have left Neil having covered just about every topic there is. His most recent work is “Neil Hamburger Sings Country Winners.” Why country? Well, he’s done just about everything else and knew he could do it better than that Tim McGraw guy.
When asked the question, “Would you consider an upgrade to Neil Cheeseburger for an additional 50¢? ” He responded to me saying, “Well, I think that would be a down grade because of the cholesterol problems people have. You’re going to turn people off with something like that.
Unless you’ve been freeloading his material from YouTube, you have never heard comedy like this.
