Yes, Under One Roof
I remember being 13 years old and my mom refusing to let me see Warrant, Great White, and Ratt at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds. I was devastated. What were the odds that three of my favorite bands were going to be playing in the FM area, and all at once? Not very likely, indeed. The late 80’s and the very early 90’s were missing the multi-bill tours, until 1991 and Perry Farrell’s Lollapalooza changed the face of traveling festivals. Today, fans of punk/screamo/emo/goth and such have more options than the previous two generations did. The Vans Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos have united today’s punk and metal youth and given their fans the opportunities to network, if you will. And Yes, one of the beneficiaries of the Taste of Chaos tours is Chiodos, who is bringing a cast of misfits along for the ride as they return to Fargo next Thursday. No strangers to the three-ring circus, the boys are headlining their tour, aptly named “Mike Shea’s My Baby’s Daddy Tour”. (Mike Shea is the founder of AP-Alternative Press music magazine). The interesting thing about this tour is the interchanging artists that make up the bill. The FM area fans are getting their money’s worth for this line-up, so make sure you show up early.
Chiodos: Returning to Fargo, Hardcore/Emo champs from Davison, Michigan. Their latest release, The Bone Palace Ballet, is a monster of a rock opera. Craigery Owens vocals soar through the peaks and valleys of 70’s and 80’s laced rock ballads with the intensity of today’s driving and pounding metal chords. Never ones to shy away from wit and tongue-in-cheek nods to great literary and artistic minds, some of the titles of The Bone Palace Ballet songs come from Charles Bukowski poems, as well as lyrics quoting Dylan and Shakespeare. There is no wonder that these boys emphasize the show just as much as the music when they tour.
From First To Last- Matt Good picked up the pieces from the departure of Sonny Moore on vocals, and the bands line-up has once again has a new identity, but the intensity has not left this post-hardcore band from Orlando, Florida. Fans can expect to hear a selection from their catalog of the past 5 years’ albums, as well as new tracks from the soon-to-be released self-titled album.
The Color Fred- Solo project from former Taking Back Sunday lead guitarist and co-singer/songwriter Fred Mascherino. Bringing the best of power pop and folk rock to the stage from the debut album, Bend To Break. New Jersey hasn’t been this proud since Tony Soprano’s trash company started recycling.
Dropping Daylight – Minneapolis up-and-coming rockers. Catchy, and a self-proclaimed “piano hard-rock band.” These kids are getting to enjoy the best of both worlds, as young aspiring rockers impressing their audiences nationwide promoting Brace Yourself, and getting to sit back and admire their heroes and comrades.
