Zelazowa
See them now before they get famous I mean Zelazowa a band for almost seven years playing and performing songs that they feel are important and are a part of who they are and are really just good songs that they hope listeners and fans will enjoy when they see them out playing. Along with touring the band is set to release their new album soon and have an EP out now that you can find online at their website or on their myspace page and look for that available at their show as well as other music retailers.
This winter Zelazowa comes to Fargo on their tour with their version and their vibe of alternative rock with own ideas mixed in. The show at the Nestor will be one of many stops on tours of both of North America and Europe cause touring is what they have to do for not only has it allowed them to grow as a band but also as friends and family and hey check out Zelazowa along with the Green Room this Friday at the Nestor Tavern.
Somebody in the band we don’t know which one says, “We started the same way every band starts I guess. We had a mutual enjoyment of music so much that we decided to create it ourselves. You got together with family and or friends and made tunes. In our case it was both. It was a lot more fun than what we were doing at the time.
“Our overall goal has remained pretty much remained the same—make music we enjoy and let as many people as we can hear it. That’s a good definition of success for us. The little goals change here and there but the big picture is the same.
“Our name? Zelazowa is a town in Poland where Chopin was born. Bryan came across it in his musical studies and when it came time to pick a name it was in the list. We thought it was cool and unique. We receive a lot of messages from Polish people as well. That’s cool.
“Touring has done wonders for us. Not only is the performance and music tighter but you receive tons of creative influence from all the crazy, wild, and even mundane experiences and people you meet. We have always been close but I’d say our bond of friendship and brotherhood is even better now. It has to be to do what we do. We are alternative rock with a little bit of a ballsier indie twist.
“We are definitely influenced by the things in the world today. It’s not just that though. You write about experiences, love, war, and politics, whatever gets you going at the time. One song we really get a lot of attention from is “1,000 Smiles.” People really seem to get into that one. “Interlope” is another one. It shows a more intimate side of the band.
“This year we are going to continue touring a lot. We’re going to concentrate more on Europe. We had a successful trip there our first time. We’ll be in the U.S. as well. And this summer we are going to record a new full length album in Nashville with some great music minds so we are all extremely excited about that.
“Documentary? Oh, that film, “What They Want us to Be, We Can’t Always Be.” It was done by Ship King Media out of Pittsburgh and it chronicles the life of an independent DIY touring rock band in the U.S. today. It was the experience of a lifetime. It’s quite flattering to be the subject of a film but at the same time it’s beneficial for both parties involved.
“We released our EP “Polymorph” in 2006. We are due for some new recorded material. We have been touring in support of that and our first release, “Rest Easy,” for awhile. The album we are doing this summer will be more representative of who we are now.
We’ll be doing the U.S. again in January and February. Europe is April and May. We’ll be in Poland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, and Norway for the first time as well as other countries. This summer is the album and in the fall I think its back to Europe. It’s going to be a great year.
