Barry Barringer: Soak the Rich

To the Editor:

Here’s some free advice for the Democrats on how to attract more support.

First, tweak your Socialist issues a little. For example, equal pay. I’m all for equal pay. If a woman is making $50,000 more than I am, she can be paid $25,000 less, while I am paid $25,000 more.

Then, in true Marxist fashion, if I find someone making less than me, I’ll write that person a check for the difference. If we all did this, we’d be upholding the core Communist principles of the Democratic party.

Speaking of Communists, it’s a typical Communist communication strategy to attack others for the same problem you have.

McCain is attacked for being an out-of-touch millionaire while there are many Democrat millionaires who can protect their incomes through tax shelters while advocating increased taxes on wage-earners.

You may argue that only war profiteers would vote Republican. But, if you’re a working person, you’d have to be a chump to vote Democrat.

It’s time for Democrats to live up to their empty, hollow words. I realize that keeping promises and being genuine does not come naturally to them, but it’s time to really soak the rich!

Let the tax burden fall completely on millionaires, while wage-earners are exempt from taxes. If Democrats did that, even I would be tempted to become a Democrat.

I’m not sure of the economic impact of soaking the rich. People might be discouraged from becoming rich. Millionaires, if they have any money left, might not act productively to create jobs. But we’d be to busy sharing the wealth and having a great time to care.
