Disabled, Elderly Prevented from Voting
I am disheartened by the changes made to the Fargo voting precincts. I am especial saddened by moving the voting site out of the Lashkowitz High Rise, in downtown Fargo. This high rise has a population of almost 300 people, larger than many small towns that are scattered across North Dakota. I am sure the people in those small towns would not appreciate it if they had to go to a different town to vote.
What makes it so sad, is the fact once again the poor, elderly, disabled and the handicapped have to be forgotten about in order to save a little money. Most of the people at the high rise do not have cars. To move the voting site to the Civic Center is not a long ways for most people; however, for the elderly, disabled and handicapped, it could just as well be 100 miles.
I hope that the election officials reconsider this move next year, after they discover the lost percentage of voters that will not have voted in this year’s election, in this precinct, as compared to past years.
Please do not put money ahead of the disabled, handicapped and elderly. They are just trying to lead just as much of a normal life as the more fortunate citizens of Fargo.
