Discrimination Against Latinos: Regarding the May 21 ¿Que Paso? Article

Dear Ms. Shawcross:
I was gratified to see your article about Latinos being discriminated against. God bless you - YOU SPOKE UP!! But the sad thing is, is anyone listening? You are a gal after my own heart. I hope we do not do to the Hispanics what was done to blacks years ago. I’m sure you know that there were regular lynching parties attended by entire families. As you also know, as the economy worsens, there is always the need for scapegoats. I am very concerned. I lived in Los Angeles for most of my life where there were many Hispanics. They were very hard working and too often exploited. They just wanted a decent life for themselves and their families. Yes, there are gangs. But for the most part, the Hispanics are very decent people and my heart goes out to them.

Again, I am glad you did speak up, but I am not sure what can be done to really help the situation - sad to say. As long as you have the Rush Limbaughs’, Lou Dobbs’ etc., constantly preaching hate on national airwaves - it is hard to overcome. But I truly was thrilled to see what you wrote and if there is anything I can do to help, even in a small way. I will be glad to do so. I already donate to the So[uthern] Poverty Law Ctr.
