Jeff Larson: The Death of Daniel Shaull
To the Editor:
On January 27, “Daniel Shaull set himself on fire outside Ungar Furs, in Portland, Ore., and burned to death.” He acted “in solidarity with the animals who continue to die horrible deaths, day after day, to keep Ungar in business…even as he was on fire and in terrible pain, he mustered great strength and tried to go inside the fur store to spread the flames to the coats and garments and blood-stained profits of the last fur store in Portland.”
Daniel Shaull had not previously been an activist. He was homeless. He’d gone to Oregon because he thought there were more vegetarians there.
Please urge your senators and representative to co-sponsor and pass the Truth in Fur Labeling Act (HR2480, S1076), which would help protect dogs and cats from being killed for their fur.
