Joe Richardson: Doesn’t Go Mushy
To the Editor:
Brad Crabtree, running for Public Service Commissioner, I believe speaks to the issues your readership might care most about. He is the only statewide candidate that doesn’t go mushy or shy away from the science of global warming. He is a candidate who believes we must develop and implement strategies for a low-carbon future and that our failure will come at serious economic peril.
I have known Brad since 2002. He has been on the low-carbon energy, energy efficiency, renewable energy policy beat for far longer than I have known him. He has been to Europe meeting with government ministers and national energy policymakers as well as energy producers and transmission operators. He has been to China looking at their technologies and plans as well. He has staffed the Midwest Governors Association climate efforts helping devise areas of regional (not North Dakota) cooperation on matters of carbon and low-carbon energy consumption and efficiency.
If, as many flag-grade generals, admirals, scientists and economists believe, climate change is the largest threat to global stability and economic order - it is time to hear from those who have the background and the willingness to point toward the potential impacts and opportunities this challenge holds for North Dakota.
