Michael Knudson: Klepto-Capitalist Scumbags
To the Editor:
A crusty old farmer from Clifford, ND punctuated his utterances with a “goddamittohell” for emphasis. I say “goddamittohell, Ed Raymond should be Secretary of the Treasury.”
An old dairyman from Blanchard, N.D. said “He’s the kind of guy that would step over his dying sister and f**k his dead mother to save a dime.” That is an apt description of these Klepto-Capitalist scumbags.
Admiral Byng’s execution was satirized by Voltaire in his novel Candide. In Portsmouth, Candide witnesses the execution of an officer by firing squad; and is told that “in this country, it is wise to kill an admiral from time to time to encourage the others.” (Dans ce pays-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres.) You can substitute CEO for “Admiral” without ruining the rhythm. The sentiment is not without merit.
