Moorhead Human Rights Commission: Censure of Selvin Nygard

To the Editor:

The mission of the Moorhead Human Rights Commission is to promote acceptance and respect for diversity and discourage all forms of discrimination in our community.

Unfortunately, it has come to the attention of the Moorhead Human Rights Commission that Selvin Nygard, a member of the commission, has made public defamatory and discriminatory comments against the citizens the commission was created to advocate for.

The Moorhead Human Rights Commission feels that Mr. Nygard made statements unbecoming of a commissioner during his term.

Mr. Nygard was confronted about these comments and admitted making the comments.

Moorhead City Policy does not allow for the removal of an appointed citizen under these circumstances and Mr. Nygard has refused to resign from the Human Rights Commission.

The Moorhead Human Rights Commission wishes to publicly censure Mr. Nygard for his comments, and announce that it does not support or condone his views or actions.
