Nurys Tovarez: Thank You, YMCA Shelter

To the Editor:

Hello, Fargo-Moorhead.

My name is Nurys Tovarez Montero. I am from the Dominican Republic, an island in the Caribbean and I have lived in Miami Florida since 1984.

The reason I write this letter is to give special thanks from the depth of my soul to the women of the Domestic Violence Program and to the YWCA Shelter.

I have visited Fargo-Moorhead since 1990. Since my divorce ten years ago I have tried to make residency here.

I have had to seek shelter due to homelessness and my health. I am diabetic, I have hypertension and I have bipolar depression. Even though I have two children in this area, they do not accept my illness. But God bless them and their children.

I was evicted and I sought shelter at the YWCA. Let me tell you what you will find at the YWCA Shelter: protection, human love, health care, employment, breakfast, lunch, dinner, clothing, shoes, general supplies and, most important, supportive services.

Today after three months of living at the shelter they have helped me rent a comfortable apartment. God is great and brings peace and tranquillity.

A million thanks to Alicia Rodriguez and Lucia Sanchez at the YWCA. I would also like to thank from the bottom of my soul Doctor Napoleon Espejo, Medical Director of the Fargo Family Health Clinic, for the medical attention I received.

My sincere thanks to YWCA staff, Karen the Director-Manager, Tina my Case Manager and all personnel because they work with love and dedication to humanity.

Thank you to all the friends I made at the shelter, especially Ester Torres and Katie M. I love you in God and God bless you.

I testify that neither the Domestic Violence Program nor the YWCA Shelter discriminate against race. I have stayed at the shelter with the help of Alicia and Lucy and I say that this is a place of true refuge.
