Peter J. O’Toole: “Inglorious Basterds”
To the Associate Film Editor:
Hello Greg,
I just finished reading Jeffrey Goldberg’s psychologically insightful interpretation of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds” in the September Atlantic magazine—I read your scathing summary just this evening.Your writing is excellent and very enjoyable to read—I can’t begin to articulate my thoughts about the movie as well as you but we differ on our opinion.
I have to say, it was one of the best movies I’ve seen quite awhile. (I view a first-run movie almost every week.) The movie was a flourish of fresh revenge done with cool sophistication. I loved every minute. I guess there are always two sides. Again, your writing is excellent—you have a skill—I really wished, however, you could have seen what I saw and reveled and not scathed in Tarantino’s work.
