Regarding Stevie Famulari’s article “Being a Woman:”

To the Editor:

I respect Stevie Famulari’s choice to be treated an an individual, and I, too, am an individual above all else. Toward the end of her article, she stated “When it becomes of a common practice to treat everyone equally with respect, equality, and support- I will be proud to have a stronger connection to my gender.” Unlike her, I am proud, here and now, to be a woman, black, and mentally ill, despite the stigmatization each of those. I have learned to have pride in all aspects of myself without needing a stamp of approval from society at large. To steal a slogan (and make it much less catchy) “We’re here!  We’re amazing women! Get used to it!”
