Woodman, Spare that Tree
To the Editor:
The Pest House was my first home, which may or may not explain a lot.
Immediately after I was born-(not too recently),-my mother was found to have scarlet fever. We were both taken from Saint John’s to detention on the north side.
I never got the fever, and I’ve never gotten over that brick building, it seems. I remember my stay-again, it seems. (As to how many different kinds of “quarantine” there are in this world, I just had to live more than forty days and learn.) I walk past it now.
Current news and your editorial of February 28 have brought back my very early career as a Pestilent. I would raise the money and buy the place if I wanted to live there; but it is too late to go home again in that manner.
A growing nonprofit organization-arts, humanitarian, you know who you are,-should have a tour and do some thinking. Residential parkside location with view!
