Going to Hel : Viking Saga Sucks

Viking: Battle for Asgard is a futile attempt to create the richness of Norse mythology in videogame form.

Our story starts in the midst of an epic battle between the mortals fighting for Asgard and the legions of the Underworld guided by their queen, Hel.

During this fight, a warrior known as Skarin is mortally wounded and is on the brink of death. He is then saved by the goddess, Freya on one condition: destroy Hel and rid Asgard of her minions.

You are then tasked with retrieving magical amulets, saving fellow Vikings, and destroying enemy strongholds. On paper, all of these ideas work great--too bad the game itself is a choppy mess.

Gameplay is like a budget version of (X-Box 1 best seller) Fable. You explore the vast world searching for treasure and enemies to fight but it never feels finished.

Fighting is a total mess with no lock-on feature, lack of combos, and a lame blocking system.

The use of fatalities are a nice touch, but it’s just mindless gore, no substance.

It’s just not much fun fighting, which is bad considering that fighting is the main part of the game.

The adventuring isn’t very fun either. There is just way too much walking. This wouldn’t be a problem except for the fact that Skarin runs so slowly. Warp points try to fix this problem but you still end up running through empty fields for too long. Better give up, let Skarin die and find another game.

Speaking of empty fields, your map is almost worthless. I’ve spent hours trying to find an enemy encampment but due to lack of any depth, it remains hidden to me.

Unfortunately, the graphics are almost as bad as the gameplay. This far into the lives of these gaming systems, I expected way better.

Background visuals are muddy and unclear.

Character animations are okay, but they’re just not up to today’s standards.

The only saving grace is the animation. I’ve never seen water look so good.

There’s not much more to say, The graphics are mediocre and forgettable.

I don’t recommend this game due to lack of fun. I’m serious, I had very little fun with this game and I doubt you will.

If you’re in the mood for a totally mindless and sub par action game, try Viking out. If you want a good gaming experience, look elsewhere.
