Q: This question may be confusing, but I’m wondering if you think it’s possible to reincarnate into the past? After I die and learn my present lessons, is it possible (or common even) to be reborn into, for example, the 1700s or 1800s?
A: The first thing that I would like to say is this: nobody really knows any of this stuff for sure—how could we? We’re operating down here on a limited basis, with limited resources. We just can’t see or know the whole picture.
My logic tells me no, but then I remember asking a psychic if humans ever come back as animals, and she said, “No. Why would they want to?” It’s not as cut-and-dried as that. Again, how does anyone know for sure?
In the bigger scheme of things, there is no such thing as linear time, a necessary construct designed to help give us some sense of placement and reference points (this happened last year, this happened last lifetime). It is to make life easier for us. It makes us need watches and calendars, but also helps us meet up with others and get things done.
So, in the big soup of things, we progress through our lifetimes, learning more and more about ourselves, growing and expanding back into our state of knowingness.
If this progression is done by walking through the years through different lives, I don’t see how or why it would be necessary to reincarnate backwards into a past life.
Didn’t we learn what we should have learned? Does that mean a mistake was made somewhere? I don’t believe in mistakes, so then what could it mean?
Having said all of that, however, who am I to say it can’t be done? I don’t know. I just can’t really see why it would be done (if that makes sense).
I know that our past lives affect us in our present lives, serving to show us where we’re blocked, show us our gifts, and so on, but then that’s assuming that you believe in past lives.
If you don’t (and that’s just fine), then this whole conversation switches again. Do you understand what I’m trying to get at? When you ask a question about something that’s so cosmic, it’s hard to pin down an exact answer (but I’m trying).
In conclusion, it’s possible to reincarnate into the past, just as a lot of things are possible, even if we haven’t experienced them or don’t understand them.
Do I think it’s probable? Not at this point. It makes more sense to me to believe that if we are operating on a linear time concept here on Earth, then that’s what we mostly do—walk forward on that line, march through our days and our lives, learn our lessons, meet people, do our work, and experience our humanity.
I’ll throw it all back to you again. What do you think? What makes sense to you, and what’s happened in your experience to prompt you to ask me this question?
Now those are some interesting questions, in my opinion. Happy soul spelunking!
