Dowsing: Energy Within the Earth

I had the opportunity to sit down with local intuitive and energy worker, Jodie Harvala.  Jodie offers many mind, body, and spirit services, but one in particular caught my attention: Dowsing. 

High Plains Reader: What is dowsing, and how does it work?

Jodie: Dowsing is an ancient practice of working with energy within the earth.  The energy in the earth affects our environment within our homes, work and any space we may be in.  Dowsing helps to raise the frequency within a space and create a space that supports us instead of dragging us down. A great example I use often is when I come in to dowse a home it’s like the dimmer switch is turned down low, after dowsing and doing the clearing work, the dimmer switch is turned up high and bright. Dowsing brings more light into a space.
HPR: How did you get into Dowsing?

Jodie: I came across dowsing in a very dramatic way (of course! That’s how I like things!). I had a ghost in my house. I saw it with my own eyes and after my children were born they were woken up each night around the same time and I knew the home needed to be cleared in some way. I had a friend that did lots of psychic and energy work and she came over to help clear the house of any energy that was not supporting us. After the clearing she said it felt good but also suggested I get the home dowsed to hold the energy. “What the hell is dowsing?” I asked. She was so funny and said, “Just do it! You will love the results and totally appreciate the experience.” And so I did.
 
When I had my home dowsed. It was the most amazing experience to see it go from a dingy feeling home to a light and bright home in just the matter of a couple hours. I could not only feel the difference of the energy but I could SEE it with my eyes in a little basement room I had always hated. That room is now my cozy little office I do a lot of my work out of. The whole story is much too long to write but the twists and turns that bring you to hearing about dowsing is always a very interesting puzzle.
HPR: How does your first meeting with a client work?

Jodie: When I first meet with someone I like to know what has been going on that led them to me. That usually gives me some clues on what is going on energetically within the home. I like to know the address and everyone who lives in the home. I also like to know how big the home is and if you own any pets. These are some general questions that let me get the feel of the home. I can almost always tell within the first two minutes of my client talking to me if the home needs to be dowsed. It’s like someone is pulling at my hands to grab my dowsing rods and start working. I get this feeling every time, whether it’s a home, a business, a classroom, etc. If it’s a bigger space or a business I will set up an initial meeting to talk about what the dowsing entails. If it’s a home I will usually just schedule the dowsing appointment once they are ready.  I am also able to dowse at a distance for those that don’t live in the Fargo-Moorhead area. I have dowsed homes and businesses in places like New York, Colorado and this summer I was able to dowse a home in Bermuda! This is powerful work that creates powerful results!
HPR: What is one of your favorite dowsing success stories?

Jodie: One of my favorite stories is of course my first Dowsing Baby! I met a sweet woman from West Fargo last year while working part-time at a local acupuncturist office. She had been trying to get pregnant for about three years and had been doing a lot of medical treatments to help her with that process. After being unsuccessful in that line of treatment she found her path leading her to a more holistic approach. Once she began acupuncture, her body was able to get back in alignment, so she would be better able to successfully carry a child.  With a year of acupuncture and additional energy work on her body, she also wanted to align and heal the energy within her home. I dowsed her home and I was absolutely thrilled to hear she was pregnant within about 3-4 weeks of the dowsing! That just shows when working with energy it all works together. Baby Henry was born just a few months ago and it was just a thrill to see his shiny little eyes and chubby cheeks smiling at me. That was one of my absolute favorite stories.
HPR: How does one know if their space needs dowsing?

Jodie: I like people to tell me how the home feels. When they come home at night are they totally drained? Are they sleeping and getting rest? Do kids wake up all night? Does anyone have nightmares or bad dreams? Do you have aches and pains the doctor can’t explain? Do you have ghosts? When you walk into your basement does it have that creepy feeling? Does your home feel depressed and sick? Are you doing all the right things and yet opportunities are not presenting themselves? At work, are people fighting all the time and not focused on the big picture? Are finances always a struggle? Do you feel stuck? These are some of the things that I have seen shake loose once the space has been dowsed. Dowsing is just the beginning of personal growth. It sets the stage for growing and learning about your life and how to create a body, mind, and spirit that feels like you!

I encourage people to learn to dowse and use it as a lifelong tool. Our earth shifts all the time so instead of having to hire a dowser every year, learn to do it yourself!
